Seraphina is a photographer and matcha enthusiast from Minnesota. She describes her photographic work best as “curious.” Her favorite images come from unusual ideas, experimental processes (warning: results may vary), and decidedly messy, unmistakably human narratives. When not experimenting with film, Seraphina can be found procrastinating her Capstone by knitting, cooking a new recipe, or slaying creepy monsters with her D&D group.
Project Details
In her own words: “What We Call Home focuses on the existence and elements of what makes a location a ‘home.’The ultimate composition is unique to each person. It can be decoration; a particular spot on the map; a specific feeling; even a person. “The main link between everyone’s version of ‘home’ is warmth. I shot my subjects at night to emphasize the feeling of light and connection consistent across each definition of ‘home.’ I also shot my subjects from the outside in to illustrate the wistful distance between subject and viewer. We can’t fully know the exact connection between a subject and their ‘home’ place, people, or things, but we can attune to their feelings. I want the viewer to observe a stranger’s definition of ‘home,’ and find their own familiar warmth."
